Question 1

What manual tasks around Bonusly can be automated?

Accepted Answer

Manual work that can be automated includes triggering recognition bonuses based on events in other systems, bulk uploading employee data to set up or update accounts, and syncing Bonusly recognition data into analytics or reporting tools. For example, when a milestone is logged in a project management tool or an employee completes a training, an automation can create a corresponding bonus in Bonusly without manual intervention. This removes the friction of logging into Bonusly separately and reduces recognition delays.

Question 2

How does data flow between Bonusly and other business tools?

Accepted Answer

Bonusly connects to other platforms through APIs that allow data to move in both directions. Recognition records, bonus transactions, and employee metadata can be pulled from Bonusly into data warehouses, CRM systems, or HR platforms for reporting. Conversely, employee lists, organizational changes, or trigger events from other tools can be pushed into Bonusly to create automations. The specific fields available for sync depend on Bonusly's API documentation and the capabilities of the integration tool being used.

Question 3

What problems occur when automating Bonusly workflows?

Accepted Answer

Common issues include mismatched employee identifiers between Bonusly and source systems, which can cause bonuses to be assigned to wrong people or fail entirely. Recognition rules that depend on custom fields or hierarchies may not sync correctly if those fields are not properly mapped. Additionally, Bonusly rate limits on API calls can throttle high-volume automations, so bulk recognition or large employee imports may need to be scheduled carefully to avoid failures or delays.

Question 4

How should I set up Bonusly to support reliable automations?

Accepted Answer

Ensure employee records in Bonusly have consistent, unique identifiers (such as email or employee ID) that match those in your source systems. Define clear recognition categories, values, and rules before building automations so the system knows which events trigger bonuses and how much they are worth. Document your Bonusly structure and validate test automations with a small subset of employees before rolling out to your entire organization. This foundation prevents data mismatches and makes troubleshooting faster if an automation breaks.
