Question 1

What shipping tasks can I automate with Webshipper?

Accepted Answer

Webshipper can automate label generation, carrier selection, rate shopping, and shipment tracking updates when orders or fulfillment requests are created in connected systems. You can set up workflows that pull order data into Webshipper, apply shipping rules automatically based on destination or weight, and send tracking information back to your order management or customer communication tools without manual intervention.

Question 2

How does data flow between Webshipper and other business tools?

Accepted Answer

Webshipper receives shipment details (address, weight, dimensions, items) from connected platforms via API or webhook, processes them through your configured shipping rules, and returns tracking numbers and label data back to those systems. The direction and timing depend on your workflow: order systems typically push data to Webshipper, while tracking platforms or customer portals pull the shipment status back out.

Question 3

What breaks when automating shipping workflows with Webshipper?

Accepted Answer

Common issues include incomplete address data passed from upstream systems (missing postal codes or phone numbers required by carriers), mismatched weight or dimension fields that cause rate miscalculations, and carrier API failures during peak periods that stall label generation. Monitor that your source systems send data in the exact format Webshipper expects, verify test shipments end-to-end before full automation, and build fallback notification steps so you know when a shipment fails to process.

Question 4

How should I set up Webshipper for reliable automations?

Accepted Answer

Define your carrier accounts, default shipping rules, and required data fields clearly before connecting other tools. Map which order fields (address, weight, service level) feed into which Webshipper fields, test the flow with sample records, and establish which system of record handles exceptions (like address validation failures). Document your carrier selection logic so your automation team can update rules without recreating the entire integration.
