Question 1

What kind of manual SMS sending work can I automate with SMSAPI?

Accepted Answer

You can automate sending personalized text messages to contacts based on triggers or schedules. For example, when a contact enters a workflow, matches certain conditions, or at a specific time, SMSAPI can send customized messages with their name or other record details inserted automatically. This eliminates manually typing and sending individual messages and reduces errors from copy-paste mistakes.

Question 2

How does data flow between SMSAPI and other business tools?

Accepted Answer

When SMSAPI connects to other platforms, contact information and personalization fields flow in from your source system, while delivery status and responses can flow back out. For instance, phone numbers and custom fields from your contacts database pass to SMSAPI to send personalized messages, and you can capture whether the message was delivered or read to update your records accordingly.

Question 3

What are common problems when automating SMS workflows?

Accepted Answer

The most common issue is incorrect or missing phone numbers causing delivery failures. Additionally, your sender name is limited to 11 characters, so longer names must be shortened or abbreviated. Automations can also send duplicate messages if triggers fire multiple times on the same contact, so workflows need clear conditions to prevent re-sends.

Question 4

How should I organize contact data to make SMSAPI automation reliable?

Accepted Answer

Ensure all contacts have valid phone numbers in a consistent format before mapping them to SMSAPI workflows. Clearly define which fields will personalize messages (like first name or account ID) and verify they are populated in your source data. Use workflow conditions to prevent sending to contacts without phone numbers, and regularly audit your contact list to remove duplicates or inactive numbers.
