Question 1

Can I automate updates to my Smiirl counter from other business tools?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Smiirl counters can be updated automatically when data changes in connected systems like CRMs, spreadsheets, or databases. For example, you can set up a workflow that increments your counter whenever a new record is created or a status changes in your source system. This removes the need for manual counter adjustments and keeps your display current in real time.

Question 2

How does data flow into a Smiirl counter when connected through automation?

Accepted Answer

Automation platforms connect to Smiirl via API, sending numeric values to update the counter display. The flow is typically one-way: data from your source system (like a database query or webhook) is formatted and transmitted to Smiirl, which reflects the change on the physical display. The counter itself does not send data back out; it receives and displays the value you send to it.

Question 3

What breaks or causes problems when automating Smiirl updates?

Accepted Answer

Common issues include invalid data types (Smiirl expects numeric values, not text), network connectivity gaps that prevent the automation from reaching Smiirl, and mismatched update frequency if your automation fires too often or too infrequently. Also, if your source data structure changes unexpectedly, the automation may fail to extract the correct value. Test your workflow with sample data before going live to catch these problems early.

Question 4

How should I structure my data source to automate Smiirl reliably?

Accepted Answer

Ensure your source system produces a single, consistent numeric output that represents the metric you want to display. Use a query or calculation that filters, aggregates, or counts records correctly on every run. Document which field in your source system maps to the counter value, and test the automation with both typical and edge-case data to confirm the counter updates as expected.
