Question 1

What kind of document generation work can I automate with PDF Munk?

Accepted Answer

PDF Munk lets you automate the creation of PDF documents or PNG images by passing it either a URL or HTML code. Common automations include generating documents on demand when a workflow is triggered, converting templated HTML into final PDFs without manual export steps, and batch-creating multiple documents from dynamic data. This removes the need to manually create, format, or export documents each time.

Question 2

How does data flow into PDF Munk from other business tools?

Accepted Answer

PDF Munk receives input as either a URL or HTML code. In an automation, data from other tools (like form submissions, database records, or API responses) is typically formatted into HTML with dynamic values inserted, then that HTML is sent to PDF Munk for conversion. The output (PDF file or PNG image) is returned and can be passed downstream to file storage, email, or other connected tools in your workflow.

Question 3

What are common issues when automating PDF generation with PDF Munk?

Accepted Answer

PDF Munk relies on receiving valid HTML or an accessible URL, so malformed HTML or broken links will fail silently or produce incomplete documents. Complex CSS, custom fonts, or interactive elements may not render as expected in the final PDF or image. Testing with sample data before deploying automations at scale helps catch formatting problems early, and ensuring all referenced images and resources in your HTML are fully qualified URLs reduces broken asset issues.

Question 4

How should I structure templates and data to make PDF Munk automations reliable?

Accepted Answer

Build your HTML templates to be self-contained with inline styles rather than external stylesheets, and use absolute URLs for any images or resources. If automating from a template system, insert dynamic data (like contact names, dates, or values) into the HTML before sending it to PDF Munk rather than relying on post-generation manipulation. This approach keeps the tool's scope focused on rendering and reduces variables that could cause output inconsistency.
