Question 1

What manual work can I automate around Hexometer monitoring?

Accepted Answer

Hexometer automatically tracks website health and performance metrics, but you can automate downstream responses to the data it collects. Common automations include triggering alerts to team channels when uptime drops, logging performance incidents to tracking systems, generating daily or weekly performance reports, and notifying stakeholders when specific thresholds are breached. These automations replace manual checking of Hexometer dashboards and manual reporting workflows.

Question 2

How does data flow from Hexometer into other business tools?

Accepted Answer

Hexometer exposes monitoring data through webhooks and API endpoints that external platforms can query or receive in real-time. When an event occurs (downtime, performance degradation, status change), Hexometer can send that data to connected systems, or other tools can poll Hexometer for current metrics on a schedule. This allows health and performance information to flow into incident management systems, analytics platforms, notification services, and record-keeping tools without manual export.

Question 3

What gotchas should I watch for when automating with Hexometer?

Accepted Answer

Webhook delivery is not guaranteed in real-time, so automations relying on immediate notifications may miss brief outages or have delayed alerts. API rate limits can affect how frequently external tools can query Hexometer data. Additionally, alert fatigue can occur if thresholds are set too low, generating excess notifications that teams ignore. Test alert routing thoroughly to ensure critical incidents actually reach the right people and systems.

Question 4

How should I configure Hexometer for reliable automation?

Accepted Answer

Set up monitoring profiles for each critical domain or service, and define clear alerting rules tied to business-relevant thresholds rather than default settings. Use Hexometer's webhook configuration to route different event types to different destinations (e.g., critical downtime to Slack and PagerDuty, performance warnings to logging systems). Document which endpoints and APIs external tools should call, and test automation flows end-to-end to confirm data flows correctly and alerts trigger as expected.
