Question 1

What manual work around Fogwing can we automate?

Accepted Answer

Fogwing connects to physical devices and equipment on the factory floor, so automation typically focuses on moving data from those connected devices into downstream systems. Common automations include forwarding device readings to databases or analytics platforms, triggering alerts or notifications when sensor values cross thresholds, and syncing equipment status or diagnostic data to operational dashboards or record-keeping tools. The manual work you eliminate is the repetitive task of manually collecting, logging, or transferring device data between Fogwing and other business systems.

Question 2

How does data flow from Fogwing to other tools?

Accepted Answer

Fogwing collects data from connected devices and equipment and makes that data available through integrations with external platforms. When you connect Fogwing to another tool via automation, incoming sensor readings or equipment state changes trigger workflows that push or pull data as needed. The specific data structure and format depend on what Fogwing exports and what the receiving system accepts, so you may need to map or transform fields to ensure compatibility between systems.

Question 3

What common issues occur when automating data out of Fogwing?

Accepted Answer

Timing mismatches are a frequent gotcha: if Fogwing batches updates or sends data at intervals longer than your downstream system expects, you may see gaps or delays in real-time visibility. Device disconnections or intermittent sensor failures can cause missing or incomplete records to flow downstream, requiring error handling in your automation. Additionally, if Fogwing device IDs or naming conventions change, existing mappings can break, so establish stable naming standards before scaling automations across many devices.

Question 4

How should we structure Fogwing connections for reliable automations?

Accepted Answer

Start by clearly defining which devices Fogwing will monitor and what data points matter for your workflows. Establish consistent naming and ID conventions for devices so automations reference the correct equipment consistently. Test data flows with a small pilot set of devices before expanding to your full fleet, and monitor whether Fogwing is reliably detecting and reporting device states. Document which downstream systems receive which data feeds so you can track dependencies and troubleshoot issues more quickly when a connection fails.
