Question 1

What manual work can we automate when using Dotcom Monitor?

Accepted Answer

You can automate alert routing, escalation, and notification workflows so that performance data and uptime warnings reach the right people without manual intervention. Dotcom Monitor generates structured performance and uptime reports that can trigger downstream actions in other business tools, like creating tickets, sending notifications to communication channels, or logging incidents to a centralized dashboard, rather than requiring someone to manually check the platform and take action.

Question 2

How does data from Dotcom Monitor flow into other business tools?

Accepted Answer

Dotcom Monitor exposes performance metrics, uptime status, and alert data through APIs and webhooks that other platforms can consume in real time. When an alert condition is met or monitoring data changes, Dotcom Monitor can push that information to external systems for further processing, reporting, or record-keeping. Most integrations rely on these API endpoints to pull historical reports or receive webhook notifications about threshold breaches and status changes.

Question 3

What are common problems when automating around Dotcom Monitor?

Accepted Answer

Alert fatigue occurs when thresholds are not tuned correctly, causing automations to trigger repeatedly on minor fluctuations. Timing mismatches can happen if downstream systems expect data in a specific format or cadence that differs from what Dotcom Monitor provides. Additionally, network or synthetic transaction test failures may occasionally produce false positives, so automations should include confirmation logic or human oversight before taking critical actions based on a single alert.

Question 4

How should we structure Dotcom Monitor monitoring so automations work reliably?

Accepted Answer

Define clear alert rules and thresholds for each monitored endpoint before connecting automations, so alerts are meaningful and not noisy. Organize your synthetic transactions by component or service layer so that alerts map logically to the systems and teams responsible for them. Document the expected data output and alert payload structure from Dotcom Monitor, and ensure any connected automation platform is configured to parse and route that data correctly.
